Meet Michael A. Hodge
Global Security Expert
I’m a proud native of Washington, D.C., and a product of the public school system. After graduating from Ballou High School, I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where I earned the Distinguished Joint Service Commendation Medal while simultaneously pursuing my college education at the University of the District of Columbia.
Following an honorable discharge, I was sworn into the United States Secret Service, motivated by a deep desire to serve and protect the country I love. Over the course of my 20-year career, I had the honor of protecting four U.S. Presidents — Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush, who later awarded me a special commendation for my service on September 11, 2001. That day, I stood as a direct witness to one of our nation’s most defining moments.
Education has always played a transformative role in my life. While serving in the Secret Service, I attended law school at the University of Baltimore, studying nights and weekends to earn my degree. That experience inspired me to give back by becoming an Adjunct Professor, where I spent more than 28 years years teaching at six universities. My courses included Criminal and Civil Law, Security Management, Emergency Preparedness, and Forensic Science — equipping the next generation with real-world knowledge.
As a security professional, I’ve remained active in the field through my involvement with ASIS International, the world’s largest security organization. I’ve served as chairman of both the Crime and Loss Prevention Council and the National School Violence Task Force. I am also a member of the Screen Actors Guild, reflecting the diverse ways in which my career has intersected with media and public safety education.
